View Full Version : YuGiOh VX Ace Deck Recipes

28th July 2016, 03:35 AM
Well, as the title says, I kinda wanted to try and make a YuGiOh game using RPG Maker VX Ace. But so far I admit to two major problems. While I can be decent at Deck Building, i'm pretty sure my deck recipes could use some improvement. The other problem is something I need to sort out elsewhere, but that's getting away from the point of this thread.

You see, I kinda wanted to share the Deck Recipes I was cooking up and see how they looked in the eyes of more seasoned YuGiOh players.

I'll post my first deck recipe which i'm kinda sure is a bit of an oddity, as I got the idea for it watching one of those scripted duels. (In particular, the Kaiba vs Pegasus duel)

The basic goal of this deck was to try and build a little something that could be considered a Pegasus Deck I suppose, using Wind-Up cards with Toon cards to combine the swarming potential of one with the high level power of the other. At the same time, I wanted this deck to be capable of Xyz Summoning multiple ranks of monsters.

This deck was built for one of the antagonists. But rather than simply make a Vampire deck, I took inspiration from the Castlevania Franchise and built this. The only thing that might feel out of place in it is Starve Venom Fusion Dragon since said card isn't out in english yet. The Wicked Dreadroot is in this as I see him as something akin to the optional Superbosses of the Castlevania series.

(V2 Update) This deck focuses on bringing together the Xyz Summoning potential of the 'Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon' and the Fusion and Synchro power of the 'Blue-Eyes White Dragon'. Perhaps ironically, one of this deck's main combos is Special Summoning 'Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon', then following by Special Summoning 'Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon' via 'Photon Sanctuary' then overlaying the two to Xyz Summon 'Galaxy-Eyes Cipher Dragon'. This deck's owner can be seen as borderline obsessed with the two cards that make the center of this deck's strategies; To the point he even employs a playset of both.

Initially, this deck started out with the intent of becoming a Synchro-only deck focusing on summoning Ultimaya Tzolkin, but it grew into something more when I found 'Dystopia the Despondent'. This deck recipe is actually one of a set of three that will involve the Cubic archetype and attempt to tell a story using the cards in each deck. Each holds a particular card that represents one member of an alliance set on conquering the world and reviving the Wicked Gods. This deck holds a 'Dark Magician' (Arkana's version of it) which represents a sorcerer who follows the orders of his master 'Darklord Desire', and has learned how to summon and control Cubic monsters. He is able to summon up to 'Crimson Nova the Dark Cubic Lord', but cannot fully control it. He thus subjugates a 'Black-Winged Dragon' to use it's power to ward off the side effects of 'Crimson Nova'.

This Ancient Gear deck belongs to the main rival of the story. While Ancient Gear monsters serve as it's core, the deck was amplified by monsters which can deliver piercing battle damage. It's signature cards are 'Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon' and 'Ancient Gear Reactor Dragon', though the owner of this deck often prefers to use 'Reactor Dragon', saving 'Chaos MAX Dragon' for anyone who manages to bring down his ace in a brutal comeback.

The first deck introduced for the 'Legendary Duelist Simulator', based on Yugi's longtime friend, Joey Wheeler and his 'Red-Eyes B. Dragon'. -Interdimensional Dragons: The Four Dimension Dragons of YuGiOh Arc-V will share a Pendulum deck that can play all four of them.
-Blazing Dogoran: The protagonist finds a second rival, who like her uses a Kaiju card, 'Dogoran, the Mad Flame Kaiju' in a FIRE-based deck designed to deliver as much burn damage as possible.
-Felgrand's Domain: A deck built around 'Divine Dragon Lord Felgrand', and cards like him that work their magic from the Graveyard.
-Crimson Dragon Lord: The theme of this upcoming deck is the Red Dragon Archfiend, and it's various forms.
-Eye of Osiris: A deck centered around summoning and protecting Slifer the Sky Dragon.
-Soul of Obelisk: A Pendulum-based deck focused on bringing out the full fury of Obelisk the Tormentor.
-Shrine of Ra: This deck will be based on both Odion's and Marik Ishtar's decks, and use all three forms of the Winged Dragon of Ra.
-Exodia Accel: One of three decks which use 'Exodia the Forbidden One'. This one however, combines Exodia with the aggressive playstyle found in the Speedroid Archetype.
-Exodia's Soul: The second deck with Exodia in it. However, this deck focuses instead on sending the Exodia cards to the Graveyard to amplify the power of 'Exodia Necross'
-Cursed Victory: This deck is all about alternate victory conditions, such as Exodia and the Destiny Board, and almost exclusively uses DARK Cards. It also will play host to one copy of each of the Wicked God Cards.

I'll update this thread with other decks if that isn't an issue.

A YGO game with RPG Maker? Impressive. Good luck!

First of all, you're going to want "Pre-Preparation of Rites"- It's a spell card that gathers both Ritual Monster and Ritual Spell in one go, easily pulling out Relinquished. For that matter, you may want another copy of Relinquished and another copy or two of "Black Illusion Ritual", if you don't mind not going singleton.

You could probably replace "Polymerization" and "Thousand-Eyes Idol" with "Instant Fusion", which lets you get out Restrict for free, for the cost of it dying at the end of the turn. Alternatively, consider "Fusion Conscription", a powerful card that lets you pull any named Fusion Material straight from the Deck (in this case, Relinquished or Thousand-Eyes Idol, which also gives your Ritual Summon even more consistency).

You could probably replace the "Draining Shield"s with any of the Mirror Force cards ("Storming Mirror Force", "Drowning Mirror Force", and "Sandstorm Mirror Force" are standouts, and the original "Mirror Force" pulls its own weight while holding nostalgia value) or "Dimensional Prison". "Dark Mirror Force" is probably not worth it.

Next, you'll probably want 2 more copies of "Toon Table of Contents" to increase the Deck's consistency. Being able to add any Toon card of your choice to your hand is extremely powerful, especially since you can adapt it to your present situation. Similarly, you may want another "Toon Dark Magician"s (perhaps in place of Attack Force and/or Mermaid?), and a "Toon Dark Magician Girl", since unlike the other Toons she can attack the turn she's Summoned. If you do add another Dark Magician, "Sacred Sword of Seven Stars" is an option for draw power.

The Wind-Up portion of the deck seems extremely solid, although I'm not an expert on the deck. If you do keep Mermaid or Attack Force, you'll probably want to add more Rank 4 Xyz. "Castel, the Skyblaster Musketeer" is of course always a solid choice. Since you've got Xyz of multiple Ranks, a Rank-Up-Magic could be an option... But I recall one of the Wind-Up Traps has a built-in Rank-Up effect so it may be unnecessary. But if you do decide to go with it, "Rank-Up Magic: Astral Force" can make Zenmaioh into "Mecha Phantom Beast Dracossack", and would allow you to include other generic Xyz as ways to get to higher Ranked equivalents (Such as "Princess Cologne" to get to "Beatrice, Lady of the Eternal"). "Rank-Up-Magic: Limited Barian's Force" is also an option to turn your Rk4s into Rk5s (which can make for crazy plays by shooting off multiple effects in one turn).
Unfortunately, both are rather tied to ZeXal lore-wise, so if you're including ZeXal characters you may want to save the Rank-Up-Magics for their decks.

Have to bolt for now, but looking forwards to seeing what other decks you've come up with!

Thanks a bunch for those suggestions. Especially 'Instant Fusion'. That card gave me an idea for a simple yet effective combo. I'll get to work updating this first deck so it should look a bit better when yu get back.

Having taken a few days to edit in some decks, I have about 5 more deck recipes up if anyone wants to look.
