The episode was pretty ok. Plot episode as usual.

The "special" opening was a huge letdown though

Yeah the opening was indeed kind of a let down; just a bunch of stock footage from previous series.

Still glad there is an anime at all though and I'm looking forward to how it will tie in with the rest of the previous shows, (if at all).

You shouldn't expect much in terms of animation on the intro when it's only going to be used once.

Always makes me happy to see Dennis battling since that means new Performages!

I am assuming we can talk spoilers here, and spoiler tags don't work. So here's your warning.

This is more of a theory that came from some words being tossed from forum user Sakuya and I, but we both ended up agreeing that Sergey is probably using Chaos Emperor Dragon: Envoy of the End. Of course, if he isn't using some random Synchro/Fusion. But keep in mind that Damon had 0 cards in hand, which is our only hint at this point.

How about Necrovalley - Hand Destruction???

Yeah - let us grant the Performages their ULTIMATE BOSS - to make the OCG game broken and let them get banned like the Dragon Rulers!
Although - it seems that their boss might need to fuse 4 Em Xyz monster (probably one of the more difficult things to do)

When you hype it up so much, I'd expect a level of effort equalling or exceeding the Summon and attack of Odd-Eyes Rebellion Dragon.

That doesn't otk though. Presumably, sergei was using lots of floaters like tomato or similar, which bored the crowd while keeping him safe since well, floaters. Then once he either drew ced or just got bored with damon he played ced and won, which is a one card otk that would probably leave the crowd in the "what just happened" state a loop like wind up hunter or gishki wouldn't.

It is implied that he took out Damon in a one-card combo, with how everyone was suddenly surprised. Oh, and it specifically went out of its way to mention how the monsters he had were easily destroyed. It feels like a hint, if you asked me.

I was hyped for some new poly card that ditches cards out of the extra deck that you activate by ditching a poly, thinking that it was a bit too much to poly with 4 xyzs. But looking at again its 3 shadow makers and a trapeeze magician, which means its fully likely he just activates a second card after trapeeze on shadow maker to pull out the third shadow maker, and then just polying. Not really sure but I do hope it's an interesting poly instead of just activating the vanilla version

Oh wow that Melodious monster looks cool :) glad they're getting another fusion.
On the other hand those thorn prisoners are pretty great as well! Probably plants right? Plant/Fiend.... ( Now that I think of it why hasn't Yugioh done combo's of various types. Fiend-Plant. Thunder-Magician, Beast-Warrior.... wait. )

lol I don't know why I was surprised to see card talk here than plot talk

I didn't wonder much about how Sergey won. If you guys don't mind the topic change, what are your thoughts on the director? I don't think he's the "rat" in Synchro, and I do think someone had used his name to give Duel Chaser the Fusion card. The way he talked didn't sound like he gave him the card. In addition, the episode danced around an exact explanation of Roger's connection to Fusion other than coming from there. His interest to Serena seems more like he knows her importance or that he believes he wants to have an alliance with her. His ambition and desire to collect strong duelists suggest he's intending to fight. Makes no sense for a spy to do this. I think he's a traitor of Fusion. It will explain why he introduced Solid Vision.

The head councilman keeps giving strange looks at Reiji, with benign smiles that appear more than the face of an old man. If he's the spy, it makes sense why he had the Lancers compete. Academia benefits the most in seeing their abilities.

The Kurosaki vs Dennis choice adds a mystery to it. Wonder what the purpose was. Reiji seems to have realized something from this match-up too, but I can't tell at all what it is.

That would be clever but Arc-V is rather blunt. Until now, we never actually knew the underground labour was a thing and all we had to go on was a rumour Tokumatsu heard from spiteful guards.

True. When Tokumatsu first talked about it, I was like, "nah, it's not true." I was surprised that it was, in fact, true.

But it hasn't always been right about things they outright say. Yugo was the "pawn of fusion" according to Kurosaki and Yuto, and it's that information that misled Reiji. Not only that, Yugo was introduced to the viewers with an evil smirk in Yuto's flashback as if he really were a villain. I think the show still tries to mislead the viewers. Because ultimately, you have to wonder, why would Roger introduce the Solid Vision? Is it to get a position in Security? Sure, being in Security will make the takeover easier, but why is he gathering strong duelists for? Isn't Academia full of elite duelists? And if he were in Security, isn't that more than enough to help Academia take over? His actions are also too "active" for a spy. Look at Dennis. He's going with the flow, relaying information rather than taking control and getting attention.

I feel the need to mention that the dub of this episode was excellent.
