    Further understanding.

You can summon 1 Fusion, Synchro, Xyz monster in the Extra Zone.

OR you can summon a LINK monster to the Extra Zone and, depending on it's LINK arrows, can summon upto 3 Extra Deck monsters to the Main Zone.

    LINK monsters can be attacked.

They have no Defense and can't be placed in Defense mode or be flipped face down. They cannot defend.

If you want to summon more than one Extra Deck monster now, you will need to place a monster on the field in attack position that cannot defend your life points and don't appear to have a built in effect or relatively high ATK to compensate.

Furthermore, you must expend material resources just to get a LINK monster on the field to be able to summon other Extra Deck monsters which you must still expend regular resources to summon.

Interesting way to slow the game down. Looking forward to VRAINS a bit more.

By default the Link mechanic sends monsters to grave like Ultimaya, so we won't be able to use tokens and pendulums. What about when cards like Macro Cosmos/DarkLaw on the board. Will they be banish like when we Synchro or Advance summon? Or are they completely hindered by them?

    &

With the inclusion of extra deck zone we still only can 5 monster limit on our field or is it 6 now?

I actually like this a lot. It makes the extra deck monsters more valuable and prevents some unbreakable boards. On the other hand, anything that doesnt use the extra deck as win condition just got better. This link summon can make the game more strategic, now that links to use the extra deck are a resource.

To be precise, you can only have one Extra Deck Monster in your one Extra Monster Zone at a time. Unless, that is, your Extra Deck Monster is a Link Monster which who's arrows point to your Main Monster Zone(s), at which point you'd be able to use those Linked Zones to Summon other Extra Deck Monster from your Extra Deck to them.

Also, an Extra Deck Monster properly Summoned and then sent to the Graveyard and then Summoned back will be Summoned to any one of your Main Monster Zones.

There's also nothing stopping you from Synchro or Fusion Climbing using a Synchro or Fusion Monster in your Extra Monster Zone, and that new Synchro/Fusion would be placed in the Extra Monster Zone in the old one's place. Link Monster in the Extra Monster Zone can likely also be used this way in Summoning other Link Monsters.

I think (not 100% sure) that since it is a built-in summon, it works like synchros, so macro, dark law, etc, wont stop it.

The built-in aspect makes sense. Then if its similar to synchro both pendulum and tokens may possibly be used then. Enough speculation by me though rather wait for official rulings.

I like this new mechanic already. Really changes the game up.

To curb an abundance of sodium chloride, bring plenty to drink.
