Gimmick Puppet – Chimera Doll [Premium Pack 19, JP]

    https://ygorganization.com/fanservicelink/

Thomas Arclight’s fanservice finds a way to survive, even in LINK VRAINS.

    19PP-JP004
    Gimmick Puppet – Chimera Doll
Link 2 DARK Machine Link Effect Monster
    ATK 1500
    Link Arrows: Bottom-Left, Bottom-Right
    Link Materials: 2 Machine monsters
You can use the [(1)st] effect with this card’s name only once per turn.
    (1) During your Main Phase, if this card was Link Summoned: You can activate this effect; for the rest of this turn, you cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck, except Machine Xyz Monsters, also take 1 “Gimmick Puppet” monster from your Deck, and either add it to your hand or send it to the GY, then, if all monsters you control (min. 1) are face-up “Gimmick Puppet” monsters, you can Special Summon 1 “Gimmick Puppet” monster from your hand.

    ------

Nice little support Link for Gimmick Puppets. It can send your GY-preferred Puppets where they prefer and also search and field anything else.

My only little twig is that it doesn't explicitly support the Rank-Up aspect of the Deck like Wise Strix does for Raidraptors. Much of Gimmick Puppets' power comes from this aspect, and the player is left dealing with that on their own.

On the other hand, it is Machine-generic, so you can use tech-engines and something like Sky Strikers to help make this, which is nice.

On a different note, Gimmick Puppets getting a Link kinda goes in the face of the pattern of what type of character is getting Link support here. The previous Premium Pack gave 3 of the 6 Protagonists a card based off of what they used (Yugi's Poker Knights, Jaden's Elemental HEROes, and Yusei's Junk Monsters). This one seemed to be giving the protagonists' close friend/friendly rival a Link based off their Deck, and seemed to fit with Joey, Chazz, and Soulburner getting Links. Quattro wasn't really anything to Yuma. Trey would have been more fitting and even he wasn't that close to Yuma personally. They definitely broke the pattern and went with the what was ostensibly more popular again, like they did for Anna and Celina in Legend Duelist 4.

Dammit. I was really hoping the Vrains card would be the only Link and the rest would be other card types. Especially was hoping for a new Ojama fusion.

Why make Flame Swordsman a Link though? They should be correcting by making a main deck retrain of him since he was never supposed to be a Fusion in the first place. He was never a fusion in the manga nor was he ever played as a fusion in the anime. Joey has never even used any of the fusion materials! Same goes for Giltia.

Well, no, that wouldn't have made a lot of sense to assume that VRAINS would be the only one getting Link, when last time we got a Yugi-based Link along with a Jaden and Yusei-based one. We'reback to 20 slots, but the first 6 will be Links for the best friend/friendly male rival of the series (Quattro being an outlier because Bronk, the more logical choices, wasn't really used much at all after losing to Quattro, ironically enough, so like Anna and Celina, they went with the "more popular" choice). Superheavy Samurai and Ojama would both be Links, as the Flame Swordsman one we now know is.

Also, the Premium Pack's product page was updated before this was revealed, saying that each series would get a Link, so we technically knew that already.

    I hadn't seen that update.

Also they used up 5 slots with game original cards last year and only 3 of them were Links. The other 2 we're a Synchro related to Arc-V and a Xyz related to Zexal. I had at least hoped it would be a trade off and those series would be the ones that had links this time while the DM, GX and 5Ds ones would be different types of special summon. Instead we got yet ANOTHER generic warrior support- Sogen on legs with a generic clone of Blue Flame Swordsman's second effect.
