    Buster Blader Discussion Thread

    Buster Blader
    EARTH Warrior-Effect
    LV 7 2600 ATK / 2300 DEF
    This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard.
    The Ultimate Dragon Slayer who helped Yugi defeat Kaiba's Ultimate Dragons. Buster Blader however has a story of his own that has gone untold until now, with a wave of support from Breakers of Shadow. We won't know the specifics until the next master guide, but there doesn't seem to be much left to the imagination.

    Buster Blader's theme is primarily Fusion based, with a touch of Synchro, and support from his faithful servant.

    Buster Blader, the Destruction Swordmaster
    EARTH Warrior-Effect
    LV 7 2600 ATK / 2300 DEF
    This card's name becomes "Buster Blader" while on the field or in the Graveyard. If an opponent's monster(s) is destroyed by battle or card effect and sent to the Graveyard: You can target 1 of those monsters; equip it to this card. Once per turn: You can send 1 monster equipped to this card to the Graveyard; destroy all monsters your opponent controls with the same Type as the sent monster's.
    The retrained form of the original. Due to not being "Buster Blader" in the hand, it can be irksome to work with, since you cannot fuse with it there. For that reason we'll still be using the original. There may be merit to using one copy of this guy for the sake of using a "Buster Blader" monster with more of an effect, oor to be able to go over the limit of 3 "buster Blader" monsters. Otherwise though, you might be better served just running a playset of the original before including this.

    Destruction Swordmaster's Pet Dragon
    LIGHT Dragon-Tuner-Effect
    LV 1 400 ATK / 300 DEF
    When this card is Normal Summoned: You can add 1 "Destruction Sword" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Destruction Swordsman's Pet Dragon". You can only use 1 of the following effects of "Destruction Swordsman's Pet Dragon" per turn, and only once that turn.
    ● You can Tribute this card; Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" from your hand or Graveyard.
    ● If this card is in your Graveyard and you control "Buster Blader": You can discard 1 "Destruction Sword" card; Special Summon this card.
    The swordsmaster truly owes a lot to his companion. The dragon's primary role is to fetch his master's arms. Truly the key enabler of the deck, Pet Dragon not only brings his master's blades, but also calls forth the master himself, and forever changes his master's fate. Its needed in triplicate.
    Destruction Sword Dragon Buster Blade
    DARK Dragon-Tuner-Effect
    LV 1 400 ATK / 300 DEF
    You can target 1 "Buster Blader" you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, your opponent cannot Special Summon monsters from the Extra Deck. While this card is equipped to a monster: You can Special Summon this card. You can only use this effect of "Destruction Sword - Dragon Buster Blade" once per turn.

    Destruction Sword Wizard Buster Blade
    DARK Spellcaster-Effect
    LV3 1200 ATK / 900 DEF
    You can target 1 "Buster Blader" you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, monsters in your opponent's Graveyard cannot activate their effects. You can send this equipped card to the Graveyard, then target 1 "Destruction Sword" monster in your Graveyard, except "Destruction Sword - Wizard Buster Blade"; add it to your hand.

    Destruction Sword Arms Buster Blade
    EARTH Machine-Effect
    LV4 1600 ATK / 1200 DEF
    You can target 1 "Buster Blader" you control; equip this monster from your hand or your side of the field to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster, Spell/Trap Cards that are already face-up on your opponent's side of the field cannot activate their effects. You can send this equipped card to the Graveyard; the monster this card was equipped to gains 1000 ATK until the end of this turn.
    This brings us to the Master's Buster Blades. Each sword offers distinct tactical advantages over different foes, but most notably, they allow the retrained Destruction Swordmaster to wipe out Dragon, Spellcaster, or Machine-type monsters. The most useful of the three blades by far is the Dragon Buster. Not only does it lock out an opponent's extra deck, it also can summon itself as the Pet Dragon, to Tune with its master and reach its final form.

    From there, the Buster Blades become a bit more niche as the pet dragon ages. Wizard Buster Blade is useful for cutting off decks that focus on graving monsters to trigger them. If that doesn't work out, Pet Dragon can replace the Wizard Blade, with another Blade in your graveyard. The wizard blade however is a Spellcaster, meaning our master swordsman can't fuse with it, hampering its utility a bit.

    Similarly, Arms Buster Blade is a machine that we can't fuse with, but unlike Wizard, neither of its effects are consistently useful. Use with care and caution. It may be a worthy side against certain Pendulum Decks, but it'd be more of a side-deck option than a main deck one.
    Buster Dragon, the Destroyer Dragon
    DARK Dragon-Synchro-Effect
    LV 8 1200 ATK / 2800 DEF
    1 Tuner + 1 or more non-Tuner monsters
    All monsters your opponent controls become Dragon-Type monsters. Once per turn, if you do not control a "Buster Blader" monster: You can target 1 "Buster Blader" in your Graveyard; Special Summon it. Once per turn, during your opponent's turn: You can target 1 "Buster Blader" monster you control; equip 1 "Destruction Sword" monster from your Graveyard to that target (this is a Quick Effect).
    The little pet dragon has grown up into a fearsome beast. Seemingly cursed with dark power, the Blader's former companion defiles all sanctity and seeks destruction. While the beast does an excellent job at supporting his master, his ferocity must be put to an end. The theme isn't as adept at Synchro Summoning as we like, but Buster Dragon is an excellent Synchro boss nonetheless.
    Buster Blader, the Dragon Destroyer
    LIGHT Warrior-Fusion-Effect
    LV 8 2800 ATK / 2500 DEF
    "Buster Blader" + 1 Dragon-Type monster
    Must be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. Cannot attack your opponent directly. This card gains 1000 ATK and DEF for each Dragon-Type monster your opponent controls or is in their Graveyard. Change all Dragon-Type monsters your opponent controls to Defense Position. Dragon-Type monsters in your opponent's possession cannot activate their effects. If this card attacks a Defense Position monster, inflict piercing battle damage to your opponent.
    The ultimate form of Buster Blader that he achieves when combining with his companion. He completely eradicates opposing dragons, which can be just about any deck thanks to the support from his Synchro companion. While easier said than done, he's a force to be reckoned with.


    Skilled White Magician
    LIGHT Spellcaster-Effect
    LV 4 1700 ATK / 1900 DEF
    Each time a Spell Card is activated, place 1 Spell Counter on this card when that Spell Card resolves (max. 3). You can Tribute this card with 3 Spell Counters on it; Special Summon 1 "Buster Blader" from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard.
    A skilled sage joins our camp, who calls forth the original buster blader from wherever he lies. Unfortunately his activation requirement is a bit too steep to make consistent use out of.
    Dark Magician
    DARK Spellcaster
    LV 7 2500 ATK / 2100 DEF
    The ultimate wizard in terms of attack and defense.

    Dark Paladin
    DARK Spellcaster-Fusion-Effect
    LV 9 2900 ATK / 2400 DEF
    "Dark Magician" + "Buster Blader"
    Must be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. During either player's turn, when a Spell Card is activated: You can discard 1 card; negate the activation, and if you do, destroy it. This card must be face-up on the field to activate and to resolve this effect. This card gains 500 ATK for each Dragon-Type monster on the field or in either player's Graveyard.
    Of course, the Dark Magician is a powerful ally of the Buster Blader, and when the two combine their powers, they can slay any dragon and negate any spell. Unfortunately there lacks still some synergy between the two themes, but hopefully that'll get bridged together better soon.

    Normal Spell Card
    Add 1 "Buster Blader" from your Deck or your Graveyard to your hand.
    Our themed tutor that also reaches into the graveyard. No reason to not use as many as we can.
    Fate of the Destruction Swordsman
    Spell Quick-Play
    Target up to 3 monsters with the same Type in your opponent's Graveyard; banish them, and if you do, 1 "Buster Blader" monster or 1 "Destruction Sword" monster you control gains 500 ATK for each monster banished by this effect until the end of this turn. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can discard 1 "Destruction Sword" card; add this card to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Fate of the Destruction Swordsman" once per turn.
    The Destruction Swordsmaster Clashes with his beloved companion gone awol. the Attack-boostering effect isn't really that useful, but if you really wanted to foxus on a purer version using triplicates of everything, maybe you can make use of this, turning your Destruction Sword monsters into larger beaters. It's decent enough of an anti-grave card, but there's going to be better cards to side with against the opponent. Granted this one is searchable in-theme.
    Destruction Swordmaster Fusion
    Quick-Play Spell Card
    Fusion Summon 1 Fusion Monster that lists "Buster Blader" as a Material from your Extra Deck, using monsters from your hand or either side of the field as Fusion Materials. If this card is in your Graveyard: You can send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard; add this card to your hand. You can only use each effect of "Destruction Swordsman Fusion" once per turn.
    After the struggle, the master and pet dragon reunite and become as one, never to be torn apart again. This powerful spell can be used freely at any time, be it to push for more damage or to surprise an opponent on their turn. Since this card takes materials from either side of the field, it is particularly potent against Dragon decks. Typically we only need 1 copy at a time, and if you play Polymerization, you may not need a playset. However the deck is lacking in consistency, so its hard to advocate a specific number. At least 2 copies should work fine.
    Destruction Sword Flash
    Normal Trap Card
    If you control a Fusion Monster that lists "Buster Blader" as a Fusion Material: Banish all monsters your opponent controls. When exactly 1 "Buster Blader" monster you control is targeted by a card or effect: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate the effect, and if you do, destroy it.
    The slaying strike of a Buster Blader fusion monster that wipes an opponent's field clean of monsters, while also doubling up as protection. Its not as powerful of a card as it could have been however, and it's typically better to use more flexible trap cards that don't have an activation requirement. may be worth a copy or two, but you can get by without it too.
    Miracle Restoring
    Normal Trap Card
    Remove 2 Spell Counters from your side of the field, then target 1 "Dark Magician" or "Buster Blader" in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.
    A revival trap. this card would be so much more usable if it didn't require spell counters. Run as many as you see fit.
    Also Buster Blader support, though at the moment we have no real way of making effective use out of this. Even if we could , it wouldn't necessarily be worth it.

    Outside of our theme, there's plenty of other support cards we can make use of.

    King of the Swamp / Polymerization / Fusion Conscription - an incredible set of cards, King also acts as a Fusion Substitute when needed, which is incredibly useful for themes like this one. Fusion Conscription adds either Dark Magician or Buster Blader to the hand too.

    Elemental HERO Prisma - more useful than Skilled White, Prisma becomes either Buster Blader or Dark Magician to aid in fusion plays. Can be searched by Summoner monk, Reinforcement of the army, or E - Emergency Call.

    Sage Knight with Eyes of Blue - LV 1 Blue-Eyes support that tutors our LV 1 LIGHT Tuners. Additional Blue-Eyes support also exists that might be of use to us too. Blue-Eyes / White Stone of Legend can also make a decent engine of Dragons to compliment our own.

    DNA Surgery - an obligatory mention. It changes all your opponent's monsters type to any type you choose. Useful for making any monster they play vulnerable to our Fusion Spell and Monster. While ideally we should be able to Synchro Summon our Destroyer Dragon with ease, that ideal isn't quite attained yet. If you struggle with synchro summoning, you may consider relying on this.

    One for One / Kinkka-byo. Useful level 1 monster support to consider. The prior is kinda mandatory actually.

    I've found that a Hieratic engine is incredibly usefull for easy OTK with Paladin.

    I took up using the Claw of Hermos, as the buster bladers have all required Types in theme. Black Dragon Sword makes them all stupidly powerful and even without boosts a basic Buster Blader is strong enough to make use of Rocket Hermos Cannon and Goddess Bow. time magic hammer.....not so much

    Then filled out with generic cards of those types and Revival cards to help get Buster Blader on the board a little more consistently

    Hate how this deck was handled, a bunch of minor details being slightly off fucked the whole thing.

    Seems to be the case with most of the nostalgia themes. Though notably the few gems they have seem to be a bit on the generic side. Or rather, you can theoretically blend bits and pices of the support together.

    But yeah, it would be nice to recieve more support, but we'll probably have to wait for Dark Magician to step up his game, so that they can maybe be blended. Though chances of that seem low.

    Ironically, a blend with Blue-eyes seems more likely. they can already search his pet and power-up Paladin, more then the Magician can do for them.

    DM hasn't started getting his new wave of support yet, though yeah, for the time being, BEWD may be the hybrid of choice.

    After trying many builds, I found that the Magician Pendulum engine works really well. They really facilitate the summon of all Buster Bladers and Rank 7 monsters, also Tuning Magician helps summoning Preceptrampler.

    Current Decks: Galaxy, Utopia, Igknight, U.A.
    Future Decks: Buster Blader & Magicians.

    Sorry I've been slow to update.

    Current plans for editing the OP are Dragunity variants, Dark Paladin Variants, and Gaia Fusion Variants. Look forward to 'em! (also will update names for the TCG).
